It’s their house, but it’s our home

It’s their house, but it’s our home

When asked to reflect on nearly ten years as a private tenant with Nuplace, Michael describes it as the best move, he and his wife of 55 years, Irene, could have made.

After living in other private rentals for many years, Michael and Irene often received requests to move when landlords were looking to sell their property.

In 2016, the couple decided to make a change and enquire about renting with Nuplace, which was launching as Telford & Wrekin Council’s wholly owned housing company, which focuses on good quality private rental homes.

With Nuplace offering a home for life, it was a strong alternative to years of uncertainly in the private rented sector.

After securing a two-bedroom property, Michael and Irene were the very first tenants to move onto the first Nuplace development in Randlay and even featured in a Nuplace testimonial.

At the time, the couple were looking forward to living near the town park and moving into a brand-new home with all the mod cons.

And now ten years on, Michael and Irene haven’t looked back and are still enjoying the house they now call home.

“Without doubt it was the best move we could have made. The location is great, it takes us just 11 minutes to walk into town, the bus stop is a minute’s walk and within two minutes we can be walking our dogs in the town park.

“As well as the location, the security of knowing we have a home for a life is something we really value.

“We really do feel we’re allowed to treat the house as our own, we can decorate if we want to and just have a yearly inspection to check everything is ok.

“We’ve had a few minor repairs along the way, but our experience is that they’ve been dealt with quickly, which really does provide peace of mind.

“It’s perfect and we have no plans to move. We often say it’s their house, but it’s our home.”

Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said:

“It’s great to hear that Michael and Irene have had such a positive experience of being Nuplace tenants. It’s important to us that we provide quality properties that people are proud to call their long-term home. I wish Michael and Irene many more happy years in their Nuplace home.
