Tackling climate change
In Telford and Wrekin there is a lot going on to support the fight against climate change and Nuplace is actively working towards a low carbon future with all of our homes at this development benefiting from solar panels and their own electric car charging points to help reduce fuel bills for our tenants. Nuplace are supporting the council by going one step further by introducing its first Future Homes Standard properties. These green homes will produce 75-80% less carbon emissions than homes built under the current Building Regulations. The properties will feature new technology when it comes to heating, hot water systems and reducing heat waste.
What is a Specialist property?
A range of specialist homes have been specifically designed to support people with particular needs to enable them to continue living independently. They have been designed to one of the following current Building Regulation standards:
- accessible and adaptable dwellings
- wheelchair user dwellings.
These properties come in different styles, but most importantly are easy to access and manage.
Please note these homes are subject to Nuplace’s specialist housing policy respectively. Specialist properties will be available in the first instance to those people who are over 55 or can demonstrate a need for an accessible or wheelchair property allocated on a first applied for basis.
What is a Future Homes Standard property?
In addition to the standard provision, Nuplace are proud to offer a selection of properties designed to Future Homes Standard.
In 2025, compliance with the Future Homes Standard (FHS) will become mandatory. Its aim is to ensure that new homes built from 2025 will produce 75-80% less carbon emissions than homes built under the current Building Regulations.
The FHS aims to decarbonise new homes by focusing on improving heating, hot water systems, and reducing heat waste. This will be achieved in part by replacing current technologies with low-carbon alternatives.
For example, very high-quality building fabric (structural materials, insulation etc.), glazing standards and low-carbon heating through heat pumps replacing less efficient counterparts, this therefore contributes to reducing the UK’s carbon emissions.
